Doch are a young Brisbane-based band who play high-energy Gypsy or Romany (to use the more politically correct nomenclature) dance music. They range in age from 19 to 27 years old, and despite having no ancestral connections with Romany culture (they're pretty much white-bread Anglo-Australians!), have completely immersed themselves in the Gypsy sounds of Eastern Europe.
Doch's influences include the films of Emir Kusturica and Tony Gatlif, the Romanian band Taraf de Haidouks and the great Romany brass bands Fanfare Ciocarlia and Kocani Orkestar. They perform arrangements of traditional Eastern European folk song as well as their own compositions inspired by the Rom tradition.
