Born in Bulgaria, Silvia Entcheva started singing folk songs at the age of nine with a local folk ensemble Iskar. She won a singing competition allowing her to go on her first tours in Greece and Italy with this ensemble.

As a teenager she joined the world-renowned Bulgarian choir Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares, which won a Grammy Award in 1990. The 50-year story of this choir is a rather curious one, and is outlined in What is Bulgarian vocal music?.

Migrating to Australia in 1994 with her Lebanese husband, she has found a new career, both as a solo performer, and as a member of the Martenitsa Choir, the Silvia Entcheva Trio, and the a cappella trio Pippero.

Since arriving in Australia, Silvia has released two albums: The Donkey Drank Wine (with the Silvia Entcheva Trio), and If I were a Bird, which is largely unaccompanied. Silvia regularly performs at concerts and festivals in Australia and Europe, and is also actively involved in the theatre, both as an actor and musician.
